Labour Daze

It is the Labour Day Public Holiday in Victoria today, and not unlike the Queens Birthday Public Holiday, it will carry very little significance for many Victorians, except for it creating a three-day weekend.

And on such a great day weather-wise (sunny and 30degC) hardly anyone will consider the meaning of the "workers' day", or it's origins from the battle for the eight-hour working day (leaving eight hours for sleep, and eight hours for play).

We have long forgotten about the balance of the eight hour working day; we are too busy trying to understand the blur and embracing the compromise that comes with working longer hours.
