It is the Labour Day Public Holiday in Victoria today, and not unlike the Queens Birthday Public Holiday, it will carry very little significance for many Victorians, except for it
creating a three-day weekend.
And on such a great day weather-wise (sunny and 30degC) hardly anyone will consider the meaning of the "workers' day", or it's origins from the battle for the eight-hour working day (leaving eight hours for sleep, and eight hours for play).
We have long forgotten about the balance of the eight hour working day; we are too busy trying to understand the blur and embracing the compromise that comes with working longer hours.
In the end, we just take a day off- for whatever reason- when we can
