They emerge during every election don't they? Those silly candidates from the outer fringes of societY. These whacko's, weirdo's and other gimmicky candidates and their parties always provide a bot of comical relief during long election campaigns,
And the Citizens Electoral Council – the followers of American conspiracy theorist Lyndon LaRouche – are providing the best election entertainment since the decline of the transcendental meditation and yogic flying brigade of the Natural Law Party.
Sally Larner, the CEC candidate for Lalor, seems particularly impressive. Look at this policy statement:
"I am 19 years old and have been a political activist since I was 17. I grew up in Tasmania but after recognising the disgraceful state of our education system (especially in the grossly underfunded rural state schools), I dropped out of school in Year 11 and am now, as part of the LaRouche Youth Movement, studying: the economics of the general welfare, the politics in Shakespeare and the universal principals of man, as shown in Kepler's astronomy. I'm not old or pessimistic and that's my biggest campaign tool... Australia needs national development; the youth of this country need a future; and we must look forward to resurrecting the vision of great leaders like John Curtin, to achieve that."
Is that all clear? We sure need more people who know all about the laws of planetary motion in Parliament.
